Covid-19 Update: Border Closure
By AJ Du Preez, CrossRoads CEO

Following on to the State of the Nation address by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday Evening, 15 March 2020,
it was announced that South Africa will be closing 35 of the 53 land ports that are currently in operation. South
Africa have 72 land, air and sea ports. Effective as of Monday 16 March, 2 of the 8 seaports have been closed for
passengers and crew changes.

Closure of some of these borders will not affect transit cargo and we are monitoring the situation. There may be some delays expected due to increased volumes passing through our main borders, along with increased screening times that have been implemented.

The main border posts that remain open for in transit cargo are:

  • Groblersbrug
  • Beitbridge
  • Chirundu
  • Kabumbalesa
  • Komatipoort
  • Kopfontein
  • Gobabis

We will endeavour to keep you informed of any changes as we receive them.
